Sold my Mavic 1 Pro and went out last night and bought the Mini 2 fly more kit. I loved the Mavic Pro but I wanted something more travel friendly and lightweight, and this thing might just be even better.

I’m looking forward to putting the little guy in the air but the weather here in the UK is not making that possible right now. :(

The MP1 is still a better drone than the MM2 in many respects apart from the portability
I agree that the MP has things which are better about it, such as the intelligent flight modes, obstacle avoidance , controller telemetry and the ability to set when the intelligent batteries discharge etc but for the things that matter to me the most, the Mini 2 seems to come out on top. I do like that the video does 100kb/s bitrate and the camera is comparable to the MP. Gimbal is definitely better too.

How is the gimbal better?

The gimbal tilt issue is quite bad to be honest.

was flying the other day trying to look up and get some far away buildings into the shot but the gimbal kept tilting down. Thought this was only in sport mode at first but it also happens in normal mode when flying in to wind. You’ll encounter it soon.

I was thinking of selling my MP1 to cover the cost of my mini 2 but I think I’ll be keeping it. Especially because you can mod it to lift restrictions that you’re not happy with.

Don’t get me wrong, the Mini 2 is still a very good drone.

I did take it out for a quick flight today while the sun was out and I’ve not come across this tilt issue everyone talks about (yet). I’ve read it can be jerky in sport mode but I’m yet to try it.

I like the image quality, it’s punchier with less noise than the MP and the camera / gimbal appears to be sturdier than the MP one which kinda wobbles and dangles down. Impressed with it so far, but will obviously keep an eye out for the tilting issues.

So, this person goes and gets a new drone and everyone tries to rain on their parade and tell them that their old one was better?

Ignore them, and enjoy your new drone. I’m sure it will bring you lots of joy. ??

I've got almost all of them (MP, M2P, MA1, MA2, MM2). If you don't really need all the AI crap isn't worth it unless you really need it. It's a cool gimmick, but loses its luster pretty fast unless you bought it to chase you on your mountain bike, shoot professional footage, etc.

Or just can afford toys, like me ;)

If you're just an ordinary Joe that likes "Big Boy Toys" and want to expand your photo and video memories, the MM2 is for you. You can fly it any where you can take the big boys as it has just as much range, has the basic "AI" function in Quickshots to get those canned, neat clips when you want that sort of thing.

I'd recommend the MM2 or, if you want a bit more the Mavic Air 1 (yes, the 1, not the 2), and add some basic Active Track and other features.

I've also "upgraded" my MP1 to a MM2. I got the MM2 on Friday so literally had about an hour where it was not torrential downpour to test it. Possibly the worst weekend in a while for trying out a new drone! I've had the MP1 for just under a year but wanted something that was more portable and just fancied a new toy. These observations are based on less than 50 minutes of flying vs hours on the MP1 so may change over time:
  1. It's much quieter than the MP1, I can barely hear it over 300ft. This is really nice as I imagine it means you draw less attention
  2. It's tiny. It feels like a child's toy after owning the MP1
  3. Photos look better, much better colours and it's a sharper image.
  4. Videos look a look better. I recorded around my house just I did with the MP1 when I got it so had a really easy comparison. The MM2 was easily better, I got my fiancée to do a blind test and she picked the MM2 and said it looked much "cleaner". I'm not sure if it's the higher bitrate or a better sensor?
  5. Range.... :( Does not appear to be as good as my MP1. I know if I fly in a certain direction from my house with the MP1 how far I can get. Due to weather conditions I did not fly it quite as high but the signal was dropping faster than it was in the MP1
  6. Battery life seems better.
  7. I like the wireless fast transfer for videos.

I'll update this more as I get a chance to use it. I'm preferring it over my MP1 at the moment, my biggest gripe is the potential inferiority when it comes to signal strength.

Range is also my concern. I’ve not had a chance to properly test it but have seen a few youtube vids and posts from people having range / signal issues. It only seems to apply to CAA flyers but I’m really hoping it’s Software related and not hardware limitations considering it has Occusync 2. :(

Yeah, I was quite surprised by the signal issues considering it's using Occusync 2. Are there different versions of it? Should the signal in a MM2 be as good as a MA2?

For MG42maniac and adam3112 :- Could you post what sort of ranges you were acheiving before signal problems materialised please?

I need to have a look at this. I only have an IPad Pro now so this eems the best way to transfer things over.

My house has a thick wood about 20 metres away which is on two sides. If I fly over the woods, North-West , about 600m. If I fly away from the woods South-East, around the same distance but I can definitely go further in the MP.

I think the issue is software related as people are reporting the problem since updating to dji fly v1.2. It Seems to also be affecting the MA2 so hopefully it will get fixed.

I’ve not tested the range on mine yet but will do at some point later this week and report back.

it’s worth noting that I have read a comment on a YT video of someone deleting the dji fly app and reinstalling it and it fixes the weak signal issue. If a CAA flyer could test that before I do and confirm to us worried Mini 2 folk I’d appreciate it. Thanks. :)
