I am still pretty new here and to the Mini. I spend a lot of time in the Eastern Sierra and wonder if the Mavic Mini can operate from around 8000 to 10000 asl? There are so many places I travel to that I can get some really great shots but don't want to take a chance on a fly away.

The manual says the ceiling is 3000m " Max Service Ceiling Above Sea Level 3000 m ". Whether or not that can be exceeded I do not know but there is, I thnk, at least one thread by another high altitude flyer in here.

The air will be less dense up at those altitudes so you will not get the thrust and battery life you would at sea level. It should work if you're careful, but be aware that the published service ceiling for the MM is 3,000 meters MSL. The app will also give you a warning when you power up at that altitude.

Thanks for the quick answer. I am heading up to the mountains next week and the mini is going with me. I will go slow and easy keeping it close to see how it does.

Hope all goes well for you [emoji106][emoji846]

Good to know but surprised. With the motor maxed warnings I get at sea level, never thought those little motors would survive those heights. ? Watch the winds! Enjoy

PLEASE evrybody remeber to be resposible in altitude flying. The Mavik Mini is just 1 grm away from requiring a pilots license, but has the ability to do all sorts. All of us who what to have fun with these various models MUST take it seriously. We - that means you andme could be putting lives at risk -by which I mean both comercial and military flights. If you are going up high then I strongly recommend you get air clearance first. This is very easy to do if your Mavik is configured correctly.
Have fun, but be careful.

Valid concerns, but I do think these people are talking about launching from high altitude ground (ie mountains), rather that flying far above the ground. The altitudes mentioned will be distance above sea level, rather than ground level.

It wasn't assumptions, rather observations, such as the video in post #6. That's clearly not 11000 feet above ground. Did you assume the mini could easily fly to a height of several thousand feet above ground?

I have never flown higher than 120 meters above from where I launched. Ever

The above video of the mine was taking up in the hills outside a little mountain town in CO called Goldfield which is about 10k' most have not heard or been to Goldfield but it is very close to Cripple Creek, CO which most have heard of. Cripple Creek is about 9500' in elevation.

Regarding performance and altitude once I tested both of my Mavic Minis to see if they have the dreaded uncommanded descent issue. I was in the mountains about 10k' and I put each in sport mode for an entire battery and ran it as fast as I could to my left about 400' then back past me and to the right about 400' then back to the left. For an entire battery and in sport mode. Never any issue.

9200' = 9200 feet. The single quote mark after the number = feet. That's about 2800 meters.

As we have an international audience, can we presise meters or feet when talking distances or altitudes, it can very quickly become confusing. Thanks a lot.
