Hi guys
I have my mav 2 pro arrived yesterday
Got a few questions about gear
I was wondering what's best to equip it with eg tablet or iPad I have read ios over android is this correct? I want to do some surveying eventually so was told better a small tablet like iPad mini rather than a phone.
I have ordered some polarpro filters nd4/8/16 also the same pl versions
3 scandisk 64gb memory cards
I have the fly more kit also
I was thinking to use the tablet exclusively for the drone I would install DJI go 4
Any other suggested apps for the weather and flight control/log I should consider preferably free ones !!!!!!
Thanks again in advance

If you are happy with Apple ? products then the general consensus is the iPad mini ( I don't know what version)
I appear to be in the minority as an Android all the way man.
Have you ever had issues with android yesterday when I setup my mp2 and I used both my note 9 and s20 I had a calibration alarm go off on my controller the only way I got it to stop was by letting it run down to 80% then recharge it again and it stopped. I did a search and found that dji work more on ios than android so thought it might be best to swap. I am normally android all the way also I don't like Apple products much at all

Definitely UAVForecast but also DroneAssist to show safe flight areas, No Fly Zones and powerlines etc. Both on the Apple Store.

The more recent iPad the better. The iPad Mini 2 is too slow for the video feed. I’m still using an iPhone 8 until I eventually get back home to Australia (due to flight restrictions) and will upgrade my iPad.

Have you got your CAA registration yet?

Never had a problem with Android, the only time I had a problem (blank screen while flying) was with a iPad Air 2 but I was informed it was to old to work properly.
I did use a Samsung Galaxy Tab S5e but have upgraded to the Smart Controller, guess what that runs Android.
Like I say I am in the minority most recommend Apple, I hated all aspects of the iPad so am a little biased towards Android.

I'm not a fan of Apple devices at all and chose the 9.7in Galaxy Tab S3 for my Mavic 2 which I've had no issues with running DJI Go 4 and connecting to the controller. The caveat with Android is that there's no restrictions with it so manufacturers can sell it on a wide range of hardware some of which is ill suited to it but there's plenty that can run the DJI software fine and this list is useful to check:

Size is a personal preference, I started off with a 6.44in phone which I thought was a fairly good size then when I changed to a 5.7 in phone I found it a bit on the small side. I initially considered an 8in tablet since it doesn't need an additional adapter but decided to go to the full size 10in tablet. I thought it might be cumbersome but had no issues getting it set up quickly and I value the extra screen space given the DJI App is quite busy with a lot of data on it.

Ipad Mini works very well, seems to be the DJI platform is geared more towards IOS and seems to run smoother on it in my experience. But I have heard of multiple pilots who have had no troubles with android.

Thanks for the advice guys I have now been and bought an ipad mini 64gb to use alongside my tab A and my samsung note9 and s20 might be overbuy but I guess I dont want to be disappointed taking my drone out and then having issues with using the controller. I could of bought a dji controller but decided against it because I am waiting for an anafi thermal drone also so I guess the iPad mini will give me a larger but not to big display to use with that.

The latest DJI Air 2 apparently likes the ipad Mini 5 rather than the Mini 4, for processor performance, so this may benefit the Mav 2 Pro, also. I use an iphone 11 Pro on an Air 2 and have had no glitches.

Hi Simonherbert,
Congratulations on getting the M2P, I’ve really enjoyed flying mine. It is a matter of preference, but I like Apple products so I suggest the Ipad. As for applications, I can recommend 3. AirMap, Winds aloft, and since you mentioned getting into survey work, Verifly. I hope that information helps. Blue Skies from Boise, Idaho ???

Hi everyone little update as I went out to have a little fly of my drone I connected up my s20 (brand new) and the dji go 4 app would not open it kept crashing. I swapped and used my note 9 and the app opened with no issues and showed a new update for the controller ( checked for updates 5 hours ago at home and there was none) I updated the controller out on site which took me 20 minutes fair enough so I'm all happy finish my pre flight checks set beginner mode ready to go ....... drip drip drip started raining :(:( so I guess I have to wait again on the plus side I can go home get my new ipad mini and try that now its charged up

I would not fly without landing gear (foldable). I fly an M2P. This gives more ground clearance for the gimbal to operate, and keeps the drone further away from dirt, etc.

Yes I thought buying those also but I purchased 2 landing pads one for take off and one for emergency landing they keep the ground pretty clear. Do the landing gear increase weight and reduce flying time ? Being new I want to maximise time in the air ?

Sometimes, when the sun comes up in the east, I prefer the Samsung Tab A tethered to my Note 8. But, other times, when the sun comes up opposite the west, I prefer the Mini 5 tethered to my Note 8. For me, it mostly depends on what type of program for flight. If the flight will be 100% GO 4, then Tab A. If the flight will be in unlock and LITCHI, then iPad. (iPad gives me opportunity for simple swipe up to force kill GO 4 (after unlock), then initiate LITCHI for programmed flights. I lean toward the iPad Mini 5 more than the Tab A also because of the easy to use built-in screen record.

Not looking too good for tomorrow either. Forecast showing rain through to 4pm. It’s getting frustrating now.

Looking good for Sat and most of next week.

One other app ‘Drone Zones’ shows good places to fly - developed by Newcastle-upon-Tyne Uni. It’s a database you can add your own flight zones to. Quite a few around the NG area.

Cool I will add it I have permission from a local farmer to use 2 fields of his to practise with which is fantastic. I said once I am qualified I will do a free roof survey of his property as a thanks !!!!
