HI...

I am near Marietta, GA in East Cobb County.

Long story short... A strong outflow from a thunderstorm (well in advance) took my Mavic PRO about 1/3 of a mile to the SE where it is now in the gutter on a rather tall roof. Even in Sport mode it was going backwards! I did find it right where the GPS said it would be... On top of a roof!

I don't have any tall ladders and neither does the home owner.

Any ideas on how I can get this thing down. I would like to get it down before the next rain. This storm only had light rain so there is a decent chance it may still work.

Any ideas are welcome.

Thanks,

George

Get a phantom 3 flyer to snag it and lift it off the roof, look on youtube for videos. Have a good look to esure it is liftable before you hook the two together. I have lifted one P3 adv with another but the battery in the lifter was low and it complained but it got the job done. From memory a P3 can lift more than a P4.

What's the possibility of getting on the roof of the room to the left of the main house. From there get on the main house roof

You could try the tallest ladder available, then a pole (pool, branch trimming saw, ect.) with a string and loop would be one way. Many equipment rental companies rent tall ladders. Good luck!

i thought about that. it looks pretty steep. I am in upper 60s so I would have to get someone else to do it. I stopped doing roofs about 10 years ago after a fall. :-O

Trust me - I would NOT be climbing on it myself - do not like heights ! :D
Got to find a local kid in the VFD to get up there for you.

Hmmm... maybe 16'-20' two-piece ladder, braced against the two closest shutters, may put you near enough to snag it with a trimmer pole, rigged with a grapple on the Bidness End?

Pole's gotta be uber-light, becuz it'll get HEAVIER, as you climb each rung.

Two BIG Guys at bottom of Ladder also near necessity - there's bound to be some serious LEANING.

A long fairly stiff stick with a loop that can be pulled close from the ground should do the trick !!

Pretty easy, George, if you can get the following help. I am a land surveyor and, looking at your photo, I would be fairly certain that a 5 metre (contractable) aluminium or fibreglass levelling staff - maybe with a light garden stake taped to the top (if you needed a little extra reach) would get to that spouting. Tape a soft wire loop at the top and go fishing for drone! If I was a local surveyor I would be happy to help out - maybe give him (or her) a box of bevvies or a nice bottle of wine, to borrow the staff for an hour. Show them the photo. They might even drop by to help if they are interested in drones. We use a Phantom 4 (post processed in Pix4d) for ground mapping, in New Zealand. Good luck ? ? and post if you have success. (But keep off the roof and high ladders!)

Looks to be about 22 feet up, 20' extension ladders won't reach that, plus you have to reach around the soffit. Most local painters have 40' extension ladders that would do the trick.
Probably be glad to help.

Different vid here but same idea I used years ago,.. point is to use the fish line and not the dowel to move the drone..
