I've recently noticed that the symbol that displays the location of the drone in relation to the controller/phone has disappeared out of nowhere. It used to be on the screen working fine, and now it's gone. I haven't changed anything in settings on my phone or on the drone that would effect it so I'm quite unsure of the problem. iPhone 8 Plus for reference.

Thanks, my bad, as I didn't realise they updated the app!
Yep, unfortunately the update eliminated the orientation display. I use the map that can be found in the lower left corner instead. Works pretty good although its not on screen all the time.

Yeah, mines gone too, it has come back a couple of time and now lost it again.
Latest software on DJI Fly app V1.2.2 and Android phone.

Have just finished a web help chat thingy with DJI regards a different
issue which i think they have sorted for me, but when i was chatting to
the DJI bloke i mentioned the missing orientation display and he seemed
shocked it had gone, he disappeared for several minutes and when he
returned he said it should still be there it hasn't been removed ( intentionally).
i've just swapped from IOS to Android and i've still got it. He's going to
investigate so fingers crossed it may get sorted with another update.

You still have it in Android because you're still on 1.2.1 on the Android. DJI didn't publish the 1.2.2 in Google Play. You have to download from DJI site and install. I speculated it wasn't in Play because of the sanctions but the app uses Google Map data (not from the GM app) and iOS app store has it.
I'm not sure if using Google Maps is new for 1.2.2. DJI had been using Map Box for some time.

What's a matter with DJI support? Don't they get update bulletins and read the release notes?
I found similar response with Toyota technicians when the 2004 Prius came out. I got to know that car better than some techs. Dealers didn't even know about putting the car in inspection mode which kept the engine running for diagnostics and sniff method of emissions inspections.

oh ok
i'm on 01.00.0511 the DJI chap said that was the latest one out, is
that not correct then. i've only been flying since August still learning i'm
afraid ?

Does that mean i've still got that disappointment to come then...
oooooo goodie ?

It IS the latest one out for Android, just not IOS
That's the firmware version, not the app version. Fly version 1.2.2 substituted the attitude indicator for the orientation indicator. This applies for MM1, MA2, and MM2.

Fly app on Android won't update automatically to version 1.2.2 with Google play like it used to.

Again, change in indicator has nothing to do with firmware.

I thought that’s what I said... And why I told him not to update the app. I have both, my phone has the older version with the good orientation indicator, unfortunately my iPad mini has the updated version with the useless attitude indicator.

I'm getting confused now, i've only ever done the updates through the
fly app when i was using IOS, when i changed to Android recently i just
updated that through the fly app as well. Should i be doing something
different/extra as well.

You are correct in the way that you are updating. The Android version for the RC v1.2.2 is only available from the DJI website hence a lot of us has downloaded it from there and did the update manually. You can continue to update through the fly app as usual.

I, too, have no real time drone orientation display appearing at all; I've updated the firmware and done everything possible with GPS activation on phone side, etc.. Using iPhone X with the magic air 2 controller and djifly app.

Yes if you have updated to Fly 1.2.2 they replaced it with an attitude indicator ?
