Hi All,

The crash occurred back in late July but it took us awhile to recover the drone and do some research (mostly here, wish we had known about this earlier!).

We sent the txt file to DJI and they asked for the dat file. Well the dat file was empty so they called it pilot error and left it at that. I have since learned that (from here) the files were auto downloaded to the DJI servers and erased on the phone. I assume there is some record of the download that we can send to DJI but it doesn't jump out. Part of it is that the drone was connected to an I phone and I am not an apple guy, could someone here point me in the right direction?

Below is a link to the final video, also sent to DJI.

Any help or information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

We can rule out the battery: Were the Props still on the drone when you recovered . Im thinking you might have lost a prop , although my first thought was bird attack but there were no birds really in the video before that.

You were watching the Display so you did not see the first flip , So were all the props on when you found it. ?

Yes all props firmly attached when recovered. I was not flying at the time but I thought the same thing with birds but not any around at the time and as you mention none on the video.

Your flight data shows things going normally until 15:20.1 when the drone suddenly tipped back sharply and rolled to the right as it started spinning clockwise and losing height.
If the wreck had all props attached and intact, that suggests a sudden fatal fault in either a rear motor or the ESC that controls it.

Thanks Meta4, any ideas on retrieving the dat files?
The mobile device DAT logs are stored in a subfolder, MCDatFlightRecords, in the folder that contains the TXT logs. The DAT log for this flight ends with FLY073.DAT.
With that at hand it should be easy to see which side lost thrust & probably why ...

But be aware ...

Try to contact DJI & request the DAT log to be mailed to you ... You might be lucky, have seen it in one occasion that a guy got it back after it was deleted, but mentioned in correspondence coming from DJI & by that they gave away that they clearly had it.

Seems strange that IOS deletes them but android keeps them. I wonder what the thinking is behind that?
